Jiří Poláček
was born May 6, 1946 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. In 1966, he finished secondary school and moved to the United States where he studied photojournalism for one year. He returned to Czechoslovakia in 1972 and in 1978 he graduated with a degree in photography from the Film and Television School of The Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague. Between 1972 and 1980 he worked in the photo laboratory of the Czechoslovakian Press Agency. Since 1980, Poláček has been active as a freelance photographer. He lives and works in Prague.
