Registration for the FOTOFEST2010 International Meeting Place Portfolio Review begins Monday, June 1, 2009. Meeting Place Registration forms and details on the registration process will be available on the FotoFest website June 1, 2009.
The period for Meeting Place registration is Monday, June 1 - Monday, July 13, 2009. FotoFest will begin processing registrations July 14. Meeting Place Registration forms recieved after July 13 will be put on the Meeting Place waiting list in the order in which they are recieved.
The 2010 Meeting Place offers four sessions of four-day portfolio reviews. Photographers may register for one session of four-day reviews. Registrants are guaranteed a minimum of four formal appointments per day in addition to informal reviews.

FotoFence 2009, FotoFest's annual public display of student photography and writing, opens Sunday, May 17, 2009, 2-4pm, at the FotoFest Gallery, 1113 Vine Street in Downtown Houston. [map] There is an opening reception for student exhibitors, their families, teachers, and the public.
Over 500 students in FotoFest's Literacy Through Photography program are showing posters, videos and three-dimensional works about the experiences in their own lives and issues such as climate change, animal rights and teen pregnancy. The 2008-2009 Literacy Through Photography schools are:

The Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou, China is sponsoring the 2009 GUANGZHOU PHOTO BIENNIAL in Guangzhou, China, May 18 - July 19, 2009. FotoFest Artistic Director and Senior Curator Wendy Watriss has been invited to create the Biennial's international programs.
The international programs present a selection of historical and contemporary works, from the 1890s to the present, by 17 artists from Europe, Asia, Latin America and the United States.
Paralleling the curatorial directions of the Biennial's Chinese exhibitions, the international programs are: The Historical Vision; The Modern Documentary - From Record to Metaphor; and Photography as Contemporary Art - Seeking New Languages.
The Guangdong Museum is one of China's leading museums of contemporary art. More on the Biennial will be described in an upcoming FotoFest email announcement.
