Kristen Klein, On the Island, Mors, 1999

Kirsten Klein is one of the few Danish photographers to focus on landscape as a subject for photography. She took this set of pictures with a camera obscura, essentially a box with a hole in it, the ancient forerunner of the modern camera. As light passes through the hole it projects itself, and the image it embodies, on the opposite surface inside the box. By inserting photographic paper inside the box it is possible to capture the projected images, as she has done here.
