FotoFest First Look Collectors Group
One of the ways that FotoFest promotes public interaction with photography and photographic artists is through collecting and encouraging people to become involved with collecting photography. FotoFest's First Look Collectors Group events mix social networking and learning about collecting as a way to explore and enjoy a wonderful art form while supporting artists themselves. FotoFest programs five to six special, members-only events every year, including one regional trip outside of Houston.
The 2010-2011 First Look Season began with a curatorial tour of the exhibition, The Collector's Eye: Peers, with photographer/curator Fernando Castro and an evening on collecting rare photo books with collector and FotoFest Board Member John Parsley at John Cleary Gallery. Our upcoming First Look event is a private tour of the exhibition Nowhere Near Here, New Photography from Texas from the Talent in Texas IV series with curatorial discussions by exhibition curators Toby Kamps and Michelle White from the Menil Collection. The curators will talk specifically about their curatorial process for this show and the steps they take when curating an exhibition.
The exhibit showcases eleven artists with a diverse range of contemporary work from video and three-dimensional installations to black & white and color photography. The works are both conceptual and documentary.
FIRST LOOK REGIONAL ART EXCURSION

First Look Membership
We hope you will join this active group of photography enthusiasts. Membership in First Look supports FotoFest, one of Houston's best known non-profit art organizations, and increases the visibilty of other arts organizations in the city.
