Artist Statement Relics began with my interest in found sculpture. Forgotten and still functioning structures within the landscape transform into sculpture. The objects suggest cultural evidence; yet have no direct link to a specific time or place. It is the distilled composition and relationship of the objects to the vast, mundane landscape that transforms these into strangely beautiful and monumental "earth works". These pictures build on the sculptural foundation that integrates the object and the landscape.
The images are large-scale, carbon pigment prints on watercolor paper which supports the grand scale of these forms, and the notion of the photograph becoming an object within itself.
The number of pictures and whether they are printed as 40” x 50” or 24” x 30” would depend on the size of the venue. My first choice would be to show these in a museum, university, non-profit space, commercial art gallery or a corporate space (I am not open to a restaurant or retail space). They could be installed simply backed with archival foam core, and an over mat in a frame with glass or plexi in order to protect the print.
