The Meeting Place Portfolio Review took place on March 7-20 and April 3-6, 2008. FotoFest made important additions to the International Meeting Place this year. For FOTOFEST2008, FotoFest extended the Meeting Place to four sessions to accommodate requests from photographers. 425 photographic artists participated from 36 different U.S. States and 22 different countries. 145 museum curators, publishers, gallery owners, editors, heads of non-profit organizations and photo agencies reviewed portfolios. The Reviewers came from 22 different U.S. States and 22 different countries. The 2008 Meeting Place was an enormous success.
Hewlett-Packard sponsored the 2008 Meeting Place. HP set up a Print Center for three days while the portfolio review sessions took place. Artists were invited to experience first-hand the latest generation of professional fine art pigment printers. The demonstrations were free and many photographers participated. Hewlett-Packard also sponsored one of two workshops titled Career Builders and Art Makers which was held on March 11.

Another addition to FotoFest's Meeting Place was the Open Portfolio Night - Evenings with the Artists. This event was introduced for the first time this year and it was tremendously well received. With three Open Portfolio Nights held, a total of 600 people attended. Discussions about photography were lively, artists' works were purchased, and the overall atmosphere was enthusiastic and fun. With martinis sponsored by 42 Below Vodka and music by DJ Joe B., no one wanted the evening to end.
In 2008, FotoFest gave Meeting Place fellowships to 10 artists from China, Mexico, and Argentina.
Thirty-eight students from seven university and college art departments participated in FotoFest's first ever Student Observation Program. Each student had the opportunity to sit with a reviewer and observe the portfolio review process. We hope to continue this valuable educational program in the future.
