ABOUT THE AUCTION
Described by a leading national photography magazine as having "a profound effect on the discovery and promotion of new talent," FotoFest has been a leader in finding important photographic art for over two decades.

The exceptional selection of work in the 2008 Auction is testament to that accomplishment. Among very well-known artists featured in the 2008 Fine Print Auction are: Doug and Mike Starn, Lalla Essaydi; Luis González Palma, Graciela Sacco; Marc Riboud, Atta Kim, Chema Madoz, Thomas Kellner, and Marcos Lopez.

The artists featured in the 2008 Fine Print Auction are selected by FotoFest co-founders Frederick Baldwin and Wendy Watriss. The majority of the 86 artists featured in the 2008 Auction have been exhibited by FotoFest. The individual images were chosen with the artists because they are part of the artists’ most important work.

We are very pleased to announce that Denise Bethel, Senior Vice President of Photography, Sotheby’s, Inc., will once again donate her services as Auctioneer.

The Fine Print Auction is FotoFest’s principal fundraiser. Revenues from the print sales benefit FotoFest’s artist programs and the Meeting Place artist portfolio reviews. The Meeting Place allows artists to present their work to renowned curators, gallerists, publishers, and photo agency representatives from around the world, gathered together in one location. Proceeds from table sponsorships and ticket sales benefit FotoFest’s school-based education program, Literacy Through Photography. This year-round program provides more than 1,000 students in Houston area public schools with cameras and a curriculum using photography to improve writing and cognitive skills.

The 2008 Auction Chairperson is Karen Bering, photography enthusiast and member of the FotoFest Board of Directors.
