Nathalie Latham

Nathalie Latham, Nina, Retired Mayak Plutonium Plant Worker, from Closed City N° 65, 2003

"I met Nina when she was visiting the Mayak worker's hospital for her annual visit which lasts four days. ‘All my colleagues have died. I believe I survived my life because of the nature and the forests. I love collecting mushrooms in the forests here - there are so many types and it is my time with nature.'"

Nathalie Latham was born in Brisbane, Australia, completed her post graduate studies of Japanese in Kyoto, Japan & Sydney, Australia. She is based in Paris, France.

She travels extensively, and bases her work on the people she encounters through her journeys using text and photography or video. Through her work, she attempts to break down preconceptions the viewer may have, and allude to the universality of the human experience, the relationship to self, others and one’s environment.

Latham recently exhibited a video work, 'Sleeping Angels' as one of three artists taking part in 'Passing Through' a major lens-based exhibition at Ffotogallery, Cardiff, Wales. She presented 'Do You Vote' a photo-text work at Trace gallery in Weymouth, England. And participated in Photographer’s Network Exhibition, Germany. This year her work will be exhibited in Galleri Image, Denmark, the Centrum För Fotografi, Sweden, and in the Houses of Parliament, London.

Her work has been published in the Australian Financial Review, Pluck Magazine [UK], Le Monde 2 in France, the Frankfurt Rundshau, Fotomagazin and Italy's Domus.
