Fisherman and birdwatchers love the Texas Gulf Coast for its abundant wildlife. The area around Rockport,
in particular, is among the most popular in the world for coastal birding. During the winter months, migratory waterfowl
skim the region's shallow bays and marshes, which are filled with redfish, trout, and flounder. I am inspired,
paradoxically, by the sense of emptiness and quietude that surrounds all this human and animal activity.
