'Free Element' is the term that DoDo Jin Ming chose for titling the series of seascapes she made between
2001 and 2003. Though most of the pictures in this series were made along the coasts of Maine, Nova Scotia or Hong Kong,
the title speaks of the elusive and emotional side of nature, rather than specifics about the particular ocean or place.
Conveying the awesome power and drama found only in the sea, DoDo Jin Ming's images transport the viewer to a precipice
about to be submerged under a cascade of water, and to achieve this effect, she often imperiled her own safety to gain
access to the ocean from jetties and rocks.
