Two symposia look at curatorial practices today: What is the function of a curator? How do museum curators determine whom and what they exhibit? How important is the curator’s role in terms of what art the public sees? How is the role of a contemporary curator changing? If there is a curatorial hegemony, how can artists break through it? Are curators becoming celebrities in their own right, pre-empting the primacy of artists? How does curatorial practice vary between different kinds of arts organizations? Do contemporary curatorial practices vary from culture to culture?
Panelists for the symposia are nationally known museum and online curators, collectors and commercial gallery owners.
The symposia are accompanied by curatorial tours of two Contemporary U.S. Photography exhibitions commissioned by FotoFest for the FotoFest 2010 Biennial.
