The workshop is free for Meeting Place participants. Registration is $50 for the general public and $25 for students.

Inside the Collector’s Mind will help photographers better understand the commercial photography market and how collectors think, buy, and build their collections. The workshop will address all aspects of collecting basics that artists as well as those people that are interested in collecting should know, such as:

  • Understanding how collectors buy
  • Understanding the questions collectors typically ask
  • How dealers work with collectors
  • How collectors view pricing
  • How collectors buy at auction
  • How collectors buy at galleries
  • Non-profit vs. for-profit resources for collectors and photographers
  • How collectors view stamped, signed, and edition prints
  • Important administrative and record keeping tasks for artists

For the past five years galleries and museums have begun organizing photo collectors groups and the idea of shepherding and educating collectors has surged in many ways in recent years. This fact-filled workshop is perfect for those photographers looking to learn the dynamics of the photography marketplace. Ms. Zimet provides the perspective of a long-standing collector who is well respected in the field of photography.
