Curator, Museet for Fotokunst
Editor-in-Chief, Katalog Brandts
Jens Friis has an MA in History of Art with a special interest in photography. Previously, he has been an active member of Gallery Image in Aarhus and for a number of years he worked in a commercial gallery in London selling photographic art. He has also contributed to the book Dansk Fotografihistorie [Danish Photographic History] published in 2004.
Since 2003 he has been the editor-in-chief of KATALOG – Journal of Photography & Video, now in its 25th year, supported and published by Museet for Fotokunst, Odense, where he is also curator of exhibitions as well as artistic co-director of the festival FotoTriennale.dk initiated in 2000. His experience as a portfolio reviewer is founded in numerous portfolio reviews such as Houston, Berlin, Bratislava, Kassel, Paris, Moscow, Toronto and the Internet-based Critical Mass. He is also serving on several international nominating committees for awards as well as the advisory committee of the Spanish magazine EXIT.
Jens Friis is interested in all shapes of photographic and visual media arts – however, he has no interest in fashion, travel, illustration or stock photography. He will discuss your work and can give you advice on how to develop as an artist. He may facilitate publication in the magazine KATALOG, an exhibition in the Museet for Fotokunst and/or participation in future FotoTriennale.dk festivals.
