Monique Deschaines is the Associate Director at Haines Gallery in San Francisco. Established in 1987, Haines Gallery maintains a dynamic position within an ever-evolving contemporary art discourse. Dedicated to providing a platform for emerging and internationally established artists from the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, the exhibition program encourages diverse practices with a predisposition conceptual engagement with the descriptors of place.
Ms. Deschaines, has been with the gallery for eight years and has co-curated the exhibition Science of Sight: Alternative Photography and this year has joined the board of SFCamerawork. She received her MFA in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and her BFA at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and at Tufts University, Cambridge.
Ms. Deschaines is interested in conceptual work that is innovative and rooted in the medium of photography. She is always eager to learn of new photographers but does not wish to review commercial portfolios.
