Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago
Karen Irvine is Curator and Associate Director of the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago. She has organized over forty exhibitions of photography at the museum and elsewhere including the Daegu International Photography Biennial, South Korea and the Lishui Photography Festival, China, and she oversees the museum’s book projects. Irvine has contributed texts to numerous artist monographs and magazines such as Art on Paper and FOAM. She received her MFA in photography from FAMU, Prague, and a MA in art history at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Irvine is interested in conceptual work and work that comments on social and political issues. She is not interested in reviewing commercial, travel, fashion, or nature photography. Potential opportunities at MoCP include exhibition, publication, purchase, and if an artist lives in the Midwest, inclusion in the museum’s Midwest Photographers Project, a rotating archive of works by artists living in the nine Midwestern states.
