FotoGalería del Teatro San Martín, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Juan Travnik is an experienced teacher and curator in the field of creative photography; he is recognized as one of the most important contemporary photographers of his country. He has participated in many individual and group exhibitions all over the world and was a founding member of the Consejo Argentino de Fotografía. His prizes and distinctions include the Platinum Konex in Photography (Buenos Aires, 2012); the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship (New York, 2006); the Ernesto B. Rodríguez Photographer’s Career award from the Argentine Association of Art Critics (Buenos Aires, 2006); and the Federico Klemm Foundation Award (Buenos Aires, 2006).
He is Director of La FotoGalería del Teatro San Martín, founded in 1985. The gallery has an art program with at least 12 exhibitions annually that balances the participation of emerging and established photographers. He is also Director of the Espacio Fotográfico de la Ribera, member of the Luz Austral Foundation, and Curator of Encuentros Abiertos (Argentine’s Photofestival).
He is very open-minded to an array of subject matter, but he does not want to see commercial photography. He is interested in seeing straight photography, essays on different subjects and all kinds of new trends and visions. He can provide photographers the opportunity to exhibit and present their work in Argentina.
