Voies Off, Arles, France
Christophe Laloi graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la photographie d'Arles, France in 1996, with a master in History of Art. He found his direction in the discovery of emerging photography and in the support of young artists. In 1996 he founded the Voies Off Festival at the Rencontres d'Arles, where he continues to act as artistic director and director of programming. In this role, he selects more than 60 artists each year from five continents.
Mr. Laloi is a key member of the jury for the Prix Voies Off. He organizes portfolio reviews, meetings between photographers and expert reviewers, as well as a variety of exhibitions. Between 2000-2005, he also undertook creative activities in the areas of escenography, installation and projection of photography. He has been a lecturer at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d'Arles for ten years, where he follows up on the personal work of the participants at evening lessons. He has also been a reviewer in many festivals in France, Denmark, Turkey, Spain, England, etc. In 2007, Mr. Laloi opened the Galerie Voies Off. This exhibition space presents emerging and established photographers throughout the year. He also founded a professional digital printing laboratory for contemporary photography in Arles.
Mr. Laloi is interested in all kinds of contemporary photography and work of young or emerging authors. He is interested in works that attempt to present paths to the understanding of current trends in contemporary photographic creation. He can offer critical feedback and advice on participant's works, as well as give them the possibility to take part in the Voies Off projects of the gallery and the festival.
